How to Join the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) with Axle Energy

Overview

If you have a GivEnergy, Fox, or SIG Energy battery, you can join a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) through our partnership with Axle Energy. By joining, your battery can earn more money automatically, while helping support the grid. Axle will optimise your battery daily to maximise your savings and earnings, without changing the way your battery powers your home.

How It Works

Axle Energy optimises your battery using:

  • Your electricity tariff – including import and export prices
  • Your household energy usage – based on recent consumption patterns
  • Solar forecasts – to predict solar generation
  • Battery status – current charge level, capacity, and power rating

Each night, Axle creates a custom schedule for your battery. During the day, your battery may adjust automatically to take advantage of grid events or changes in tariffs.

Key Benefits:

  • £25 sign-up bonus
  • Guaranteed £10+ per month
  • Automatic optimisation – charge, discharge, and export at the most profitable times
  • Extra grid earnings when profitable
  • Battery health protected – limits cycles and respects state-of-charge ranges
  • Full control – your battery still powers your home first

What to Expect Day-to-Day

  • Night-time: battery charges during cheaper periods
  • Daytime: battery powers your home, storing solar energy when available
  • Evening/peak: battery may discharge to take advantage of high tariffs or paid grid events
  • Schedules may update during the day if there’s an opportunity to earn more

Typical behaviour: 4–6 mode changes per day (charge, self-use, export) to maximise savings.

How to View Your Battery Schedule

FoxESS:

  • Open Devices > Battery > Mode Scheduler in the FoxESS Cloud or mobile app

GivEnergy:

  • Portal: Portal > Inverter > Remote Control (cog) > Remote Control History
  • Mobile app: Battery tab > Settings > Inverter Schedule

You’ll see charge, self-use, and export periods as set by Axle’s optimiser. Short bursts or adjustments are normal and indicate optimisation is working.

Battery Health

Axle’s optimiser:

  • Limits cycling – roughly one full cycle per day
  • Respects limits – operates within manufacturer’s recommended charge ranges
  • Keeps your battery in optimal condition while maximising savings
