⏰ GivEnergy – Time of Use (TOU) Charging Guide

Your GivEnergy inverter and battery can be programmed to charge during cheap off-peak periods (such as Octopus Go, Intelligent, Economy 7) and discharge when electricity is expensive. This helps maximise savings and efficiency.

✅ How to Set Time of Use in the GivEnergy App

1. Open the GivEnergy app on your phone.
2. Select your system/inverter from the dashboard.
3. Tap Settings → Charge & Discharge Settings (may appear as “Time of Use” on some versions).
4. Enable Charge Schedule.

5. Set your cheap rate start and end times (for example, 00:30 – 04:30 for Octopus Go).

   Choose the maximum charge level (%) you want the battery to reach.

   • Example: set to 100% if you want a full charge overnight.
6. (Optional) Enable Discharge Schedule to export energy during peak hours if your tariff pays for export.
7. Tap Save / Apply.

⚡ Useful Tips

• Make sure your system clock and timezone are correct in the app.
• If using a dynamic tariff (e.g. Octopus Agile), you may need to adjust times regularly.
• You can also configure this in the GivEnergy Portal (web dashboard) under Charge & Discharge Settings.
• Always check that your battery has enough capacity left for backup if you want resilience during power cuts.

📊 Example – Octopus Go Tariff

• Off-peak rate: 00:30 – 04:30
• App Setting: Enable charge schedule for those 4 hours.
• The battery will automatically top up overnight at cheap rates, then discharge during the day when grid prices are higher.
