How to Enable Time-Based Control

  1. Open the Tesla app and navigate to your Home Energy section.

    Tap Settings → then Powerwall.

Find the Operational Mode setting and select Time-Based Control.

    Configure your utility rate plan:

    • Choose your rate structure (e.g., Time-of-Use, Flat, Free-Tariff).
    • Input off-peak and on-peak pricing or select a known rate plan if available.
  2. The Powerwall will now automatically shift between charging and supplying your home to maximize economic benefit.

Powerwall not charging  as expected?

There could be a number of reasons why this is happening, but first of all, please ensure the powerwall has a good internet connection and that your time of use settings are correct.

Tesla use a platform called Opticaster to control how your battery operates. You can learn more about it here:

🔗 Tesla Opticaster Overview

Tesla actively change and update Opticaster, which means your battery’s behaviour may vary over time.

If you’d prefer more direct control over your battery settings, some users choose third-party tools such as NetZero:
